X-ray spex germ-free youth compilation (including a somewhat unlistenable recording of their second live gig)
The strokes- new album (yep. go cry)
ryuichi sakamoto and alva noto- vrioon (STILL loving this)
state-music compilation (given to me by a friend, not sure on the details [i'm at the library] but trust that it moves along similar paths to 12k and raster noton in fact sharing some of those artists and is sublimely beauty-full as an ambient technology)
pleemobil records (all)
darkmatter 2xCD Dj Diskore/Minion/Resurrector
ambivalence records (all)
idroscalo dischi (all)
praxis records (low entropy and nihil fist being the highlights)
new datacide!
most dead silence syndicate/south london electro stuff

i don't even know what came out this year? i think the only stuff i got that was released this year were the low entropy on praxis, which i think is great, and the nihil fist record on praxis, which i think is in contention for worst "music" release on any format of all time and easily my worst purchase ever. no thanks to everyone who recommended it to me, it's nothing like you all described.

Whaaaaaaahhhht? Nihil Fist is the worst music in the same way Voivod's 'War & Pain' or Sodom's 'In The Sign Of Evil' is: fucking raw n' loose n' sloppy n' brutal n' unprecedented n' likely to be worshipped 10 years from now by 95% of the 'core world.

how the hell can you even get off comparing voivod and sodom, people who actually play instruments and used melody and rhythm, and helped define a sound, albeit extremely distorted and chaotic, with some sloppy noise jockey whose intros comprise unedited samples of others works, and then devolves into a piss poor attempt at a sound that has been defined for over 20 years by artists the likes of merzbow and others? Unprecedented? Hardly, I have tracks like that that i was working on when i first started producing...but i was just taking a piss, i wouldn't consider it unprecedented, or brutal, just raw and poorly conceived. I dunno, it's just my opinion, but i was just extremely underwhelmed by the album, people were describing it as "crazy" and "brutal", but the kicks just blur together, and i found the noise elements used to be trite.

Magus don't feel alone on this one I completely agree. I don't believe you can say it was "unprecedented" when all you have to do is play most "speedcore" recs. at 45, and +8.

whatever, nihil fist slays and you're just jealous cause you cant rock that hard

also: the elektoplasma/celluloid mata split was quite good
igor/slepcy split totally kicked (love that link track!)
pure - bodyhammer, essential retrospective
shitmat - shopliftin gabba
cdatakill - paradisi
low entropy - anarcho psychotic and orbital bombing (though
i think that was last year)
agoraphobic nosebleed - altered states of america, 100 tracks in
under 20 minutes, does it get any better than that?

actually, i believe the fact that i stated that i used to make tracks exactly like that and got completely bored with it would contradict that. five years ago i would have loved this. i guess it's impressive to people who don't produce, but it's really pretty much the entry-level tracker sound of just about anyone who has delved into speedcore/noise, right down to the ironic cheesy intros. using samples and noise and an "i'm too hard for music" excuse to cover up a lack of any musical training or programming. there's been stuff like this all over the net since the whole gabber/speedcore tracker crew phenomenon started around 10 years ago, so it's certainly not moving in any new directions. oh i forgot, there are guys with masks over their heads on the record, so it must be fuckin core, dude. oh and the fact that i've tried to sell this record three times on here and not a single person has contacted me with interest doesn't hold much water for the "legendary in 10 years" claim.

I know I know. I was just jerkin yer chain a little. I agree that there is tons of this "speedcore/noise" tracker stuff and that it doesn't take a great amount of skill, blah blah blah... but it does take desire, which i believe is a far more relevant quality when it comes to writing music. and I personally haven't heard any that have taken it this far. (maybe you could suggest some!) I guess this is the point where personal taste comes in, but there is actually a lot going on in NF's tracks, many layers of furious noise textures meshing and colliding with each other at a frantic pace, perhaps too much of a sensory overload for most people, which is probably partly why no one would buy your copy. (also theres the fact that it just came out last year and pretty much everywhere still has copies!) anyways , thats my two cents...

oh yeah, and the nihil fist 7" on sprengstoff kicked ass too!
